Literally the same wheels. Explanation after the jump.
I had a set of the delightful factory 14” BBS on my car for maybe the last half year, but they were cosmetically rough : curb rash so bad the clear coat was flaking off at the edges, brown dots of brake dust staining in the crevices, no center caps, etc. My friend also has a Miata, and he also has the 14” BBS. His are super duper nice though, which is incredible considering he scooped all four up for $50 in what was the biggest freak transaction I’ve witnessed to date. He promptly sold his steel rolling stock after he got the BBS on the car.
Fast forward to earlier this week. My friend decides he wants to sell the NA, rather rapidly. He’s got no alternate set of wheels to sell the car on so he can part out/keep the BBS. It then occurs to me: why don’t we just swap sets of BBS? Our tires are similar compound, similar life so that’s not a factor. And selling an old beater NA with nice BBS versus selling an old beater NA with rough BBS isn’t going to make a huge impact. He agrees, so last morning we did the old switcharoo. Violà —I just secured a set of cherry BBS for no cost other than the ‘thank you’ $50 I’ll be giving him. They are pictured above, mounted to my car.
This probably would not have happened if (a) he wasn’t a very close friend, (b) he had a spare set of wheels, (c) he felt more passionately/clingy about cars than does, (d) he paid more than $50 for these wheels, and (e) he wasn’t in such a sudden rush to sell his NA. The stars definitely aligned for me yesterday, very happy to have such a clean set of these amazing wheels at last.

I have a set of bbs for my e30 with 2 extras I’ve scrounged (because the rears are slightly bent.) I am in search of a set for my 540 now too. Because basketweave!

actually I think they look pretty good but kinda heavy at 14.5 lbs and i just want to change em for some reason.

hollowspoke NA8 alloys can’t really go wrong, daisies without caps are nice too... then the BBS are terrific but may not fit your car’s aesthetic. NA/NB are well endowed with a good stock wheels selection though.
